What Geostat published

On 30 October 2026 Geostat, the National Statistics Office of Georgia, published its rapid estimate of economic growth for September 2026. Real gross domestic product grew by an estimated 6.0% compared with September 2025, and average real growth for January-September 2026 was 7.4%.

These are preliminary figures. Geostat builds the rapid estimate from VAT payers' turnover and fiscal and monetary statistics; for sectors without monthly data, such as agriculture and the non-observed economy, it relies on data for previous periods. Turnover data for earlier months may be updated, which changes the estimates for those months.

The numbers and the baseline

September's 6.0% follows growth of 6.3% in August 2026, when the eight-month average stood at 7.6%, as cited by the National Bank of Georgia on 21 October. In July 2026 growth was 8.0%, according to the bank's September decision. A year earlier, Geostat estimated growth of 6.4% for September 2025 and 7.7% for January-September 2025.

Geostat names construction, information and communication, mining and quarrying, wholesale and retail trade, and financial and insurance activities as significant contributors to growth in September. Manufacturing and administrative and support service activities declined.

The same release shows 8,388 newly registered enterprises in September 2026, up 32.1% year on year, and VAT payers' turnover used in the estimate of GEL 17,603.4 million, up 13.5% year on year.

Against the official forecast

On 21 October the National Bank raised its 2026 growth projection from 6.5% to 7.2% and said growth in 2027 is expected to be around 5.5%, all else equal. The nine-month average of 7.4% is above the full-year projection. The bank kept the policy rate at 8.25% at the same meeting, with annual inflation at 5.6% in September against its 3% target.

What it means for investors

  • Returns: domestic demand remains strong, but monthly growth has eased from 8.0% in July to 6.0% in September, so return assumptions built on mid-year growth deserve a second look. Our investment returns service sets out how we assess projects.
  • Business setup: the rise in new registrations points to active company formation. The rules for registering a company are on our page /rules/company-formation.
  • Financing: with inflation above the 3% target, the National Bank kept the policy rate at 8.25%, and its next decision is due on 16 December 2026.

What remains uncertain

The September figure is a first estimate and can be revised as Geostat receives fuller turnover data. Sector contributions are named but not quantified in the release.

What to watch next

Geostat's rapid estimate for October 2026 is scheduled for 30 November 2026. The National Bank's Monetary Policy Committee meets next on 16 December 2026.
