What was published
On 19 October 2026 Geostat, the National Statistics Office of Georgia, published its detailed external merchandise trade release and its domestic exports release for January-September 2026. Domestic exports are exports excluding re-exports. All 2026 figures in both releases are preliminary.
The numbers
Georgia's total exports, excluding non-declared exports, were USD 6,153.2 million in January-September 2026, 19.6% higher year on year. Domestic exports amounted to USD 3,756.5 million, up 60.3%, and made up 61.0% of total exports. A month earlier, in the January-August release, domestic exports were USD 3,286.6 million, up 63.5%, with a share of 60.6%.
In September alone, domestic exports were USD 470,745.1 thousand, 41.0% higher than in September 2025.
Petroleum and petroleum oils became the largest domestic export item at USD 762.6 million, or 20.3% of domestic exports, against USD 16,170.9 thousand in January-September 2025. Precious metal ores and concentrates followed at USD 464.0 million (12.4%), and ferro-alloys at USD 239.0 million (6.4%). Domestic exports of wine of fresh grapes were 2.1% lower and spirituous beverages 14.9% lower year on year.
China was the largest market for domestic exports at USD 566.8 million, up 187.6%, followed by Russia at USD 523.2 million (up 2.7%) and Türkiye at USD 323.1 million (up 53.1%).
Cars and Central Asia
The detailed release also shows which export items and markets declined. Motor cars remained the largest item in total exports at USD 1,529.3 million, 24.9% of the total, but were 23.7% lower year on year. Kyrgyzstan was still the largest destination for total exports at USD 650.2 million, but down 39.8%, and exports to Kazakhstan were down 33.8%. Total exports to China rose 168.7% to USD 583.1 million.
What it means for investors
For returns-focused investors, the 2026 export expansion is coming mainly from goods Geostat records as domestic exports, rather than from re-exports of goods through Georgia. For business setup, processing and mining-related exports to China and Türkiye are growing, while car exports and exports to Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan are contracting. Our logistics and manufacturing sector pages set out the wider context.
What remains uncertain
The figures are preliminary and will be revised under Geostat's revision policy. The releases do not explain why petroleum oil exports rose so sharply, and a growth path built on a few commodities can reverse quickly.
What to watch next
Geostat's express trade data for October 2026 are scheduled for 13 November 2026, and the detailed trade and domestic exports releases for October for 19 November 2026.
